uTorrent is a torrent download software that allows users to download content from other users that have been referenced within a torrent. A torrent is effectively a document that is able to keep track of content as well as all other users who are downloading and uploading that content. uTorrent then uses the information found in the torrent to download content from other users.

uTorrent is a 300 KB program that includes its own uninstaller and features many options for controlling how uTorrent accesses torrents and how operations are carried out. For example, uTorrent allows users to decide which folders the torrents and finished downloads are stored in, how many torrents can be downloaded at the same time and at what speed, and how many users can download content from other users at the same time and at what speed.

uTorrent For Mac

uTorrent is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac computers although all versions provide users with the same tools. Mac users can download uTorrent by clicking here and selecting the “Download Now” button. The latest stable version of uTorrent For Mac was released on December 23, 2011. It is significantly larger than its Windows counterpart at 2.55 MB.

Advantages/Disadvantages

Although uTorrent For Mac provides the same features as uTorrent For Windows, both versions of the program are notoriously insignificant when compared to BitTorrent, due to its frequent crashes and failure to recognize many torrents. BitTorrent is generally considered the better choice and is also available for Mac. It is virtually identical to uTorrent in every possible way other than performance.
