An eBook is, as the name suggests, an electronic book. This is any book that, instead of holding it in your hands, appears on your screen. Typically, an eBook is packaged in PDF form so that it cannot be copied as easily and so that the presentation, especially with images, is more appealing. Publishers these days are starting to turn their hardcover books into eBooks because of the arrival of so many different types of eBook readers.

How to Publish an eBook

The first and most basic step to publishing an eBook is to write it. Find a topic of interest and write something about it. The big thing to ask yourself is: why value do I offer by writing this topic? What are you providing to the customer? Will they want to buy it? If so, write the topic. The length is irrelevant. It can be five pages long and it can be one hundred pages long. Some of the best eBooks are short.

Convert the eBook to PDF so that it is easier to scroll from page to page. While in PDF format, add a table of contents. What this does is allow the user to, if they wanted to, go to the seventh topic rather than having to simply scroll. They can click a link and the PDF automatically takes them to that page. Make sure that the page numbers of your book match up with the table of contents so that it is easy to navigate.

Hire someone or create your own book cover. Remember, people do judge books by their cover, so it is important to have a book cover that really looks good. There are free eBook cover designs on the web that you can use; however, if you’re going to be selling the eBook, try and get a custom one made so that it stands out. The cover is irrelevant once the book is sold, but to increase sales of it, make it stand out.

Find a way to sell it. Amazon now offers self-publishing eBooks and a market place for it as well. You can upload the eBook to their site and pick the price. They obviously take a percentage of the sales, but this opens up the door to a large number of customers that might be interested in what you have to say. Amazon typically sells eBooks for $9.95 when they are a new release, but you can sell it for however much you want, especially if you’re selling individually. Some people sell eBooks for $50 a pop because they are confident the information they provide is necessary. The more value you add, the more you can charge.
