With the many different viruses, worms, and Internet hacks that lay waiting around every virtual corner, users need stable antivirus software in order to combat these threats. Challenges may be met, however, when a user must combat viruses and other problems on multiple computers or even on mobile devices. Because of this, many software designers have created portable antivirus programs that can be transported from one computer to another by means of a USB flash drive or disc. This article will list a number of these portable antivirus programs that can be used to fight back against cyber threats.

ClamWin Portable
ClamWin Portable is a free, open source portable antivirus program that is able to scan computers and mobile devices for viruses, trojans, worms, adware, spyware, rootkits, hack tools and malware. ClamWin Portable can be placed on a USB flash drive or disc and features plug-and-play technology that allows the software to automatically open so that users never need to install the software on any other device. ClamWin Portable cannot scan new files unless the user specifically scans the system but it can update its database of threats when connected to a device that has Internet access.Antivirus Portable

HouseCall
HouseCall is a portable antivirus program from Trend Micro. HouseCall is able to scan devices for trojans, viruses, unnecessary browser plugins, worms, and malware and immediately remove these threats. HouseCall is able to update its virus database through the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network and can also target specific folders. Likewise, HouseCall is able to scan specific sections of the user's computer or device in order to catch the most harmful threats in the shortest amount of time. HouseCall is very easy to use and can quickly scan the user's entire hard drive for any possible threats.

Dr. Web CureIt
Dr. Web CureIt is another portable antivirus software that is very similar to ClamWin. Like ClamWin, Dr. Web CureIt can scan computers and devices for viruses, worms, trojans, rootkits, adware, spyware, hack tools, and malware and remove these threats in a short amount of time. Dr. Web CureIt can be installed on a USB flash drive or disc and used on virtually any device that has a USB port or CD player. Dr. Web CureIt has its own scanning engine that is able to provide reliable detection of computer threats. However, like ClamWin, Dr. Web CureIt does not provide real-time protection.

MX One
MX One is a portable antivirus program that can be outfitted to a USB flash drive. The software provides two types of protection: the first type allowing the user to protect his/her computer against infected USB devices and the second allowing the user to install the software on the USB flash drive. MX One can scan any device it is connected to and remove virtually any threat it encounters. The software can update its threat database, quarantine threats, and allows the user to select whether the entire device should be scanned or only a particular section.

TrustPort Antivirus
TrustPort Antivirus is an antivirus software that can also be used on portable devices such as USB flash drives. The portable version of TrustPort Antivirus includes many of the same functions and features as the desktop application and has a wide variety of security tools that allow users to do everything from scanning their computer or device to protecting their Internet browser. The software includes a firewall, data shredder, disk protection feature, eSign certificate scanner, archive encryption tool, skin configurator, and a number of other security tools.
