Error 1933 is a Microsoft error that is sometimes generated when your attempt to install Microsoft Project fails. The general text of Error 1933 reads as follows: "Windows files must be installed for your installation to proceed." This issue indicates that the installation process involves functions that the operating system will not allow.

How Did The Problem Occur?

Generally, there are a couple of things that must be true in order for Error 1933 to occur. First, the operating system on the hard drive has to be Microsoft 2000, Microsoft 2003, or Windows XP. Second, any one of these three, as well as Microsoft Millennium, has to be installed and running. The problem occurs when Microsoft Project attempts to replace Internet Explorer files of Office Tools files that have been write-protected by one of these operating systems in an older version. The operating system will not allow the installation to continue, since Project will keep attempting to overwrite the files.Error 1933

How Do I Fix the Problem?

In order to deal with the write protection issue, scrap the current attempt to install Project and start the installation over. When prompted, choose to customize the installation, rather than opting for the typical installation. This will give you the chance to install Project without attempting to overwrite Internet Explorer or Office Tools.

When the installation progresses to the install page, click on "customize," specify the folder where you want to install Project; then click "next." On the next screen (which is the Selecting Features screen), you will have the ability to click on Office Tools; this will provide you with the option to select "not available." Click on "not available"; then select "next." Doing this will allow the installation to continue as if there were no write protected files to deal with. From that point, the installation of Microsoft Project should be smooth and error free.
