Microsoft Office is a software suite that includes a number of Microsoft programs that can be used to create tables, charts, presentations, websites, blogs, formulas, and a vast array of other documents. Microsoft Office has been popular since its introduction in 1989, which only consisted of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint at the time.

Since then Microsoft Office has grown significantly larger, with the addition of Project, Access, InfoPath Designer, InfoPath Filler, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, SharePoint, Picture Manager, Clip Organizer, and Upload Center. Although Microsoft designed, owned, and distributed Microsoft Office, it was always compatible with Mac OS X.

Although Microsoft Office has always been compatible with Mac OS X, Office For Mac is marketed as its own software due to the high integrative nature of Office. Office For Mac 2011 can be purchased from the Official Microsoft Office For Mac homepage, while older versions may be available for free elsewhere on the Internet.

While Office For Mac includes all of the same features of Office For Windows and looks identical, it is specifically designed to collaborate with other Mac programs and integrate itself in the framework of the Mac operating system, allowing Mac users to open files from virtually any environment, such as the Desktop or in other folders, in the same way that Windows users are able to work with Office.

 

Advantages/Disadvantages

Office For Mac allows Mac users to enjoy the benefits of Microsoft Office on their Mac devices. Office For Mac allows users to create a wide variety of documents and share them through a number of sources, as well as open and edit documents that were sent from Windows users.

Although Office For Mac is designed to be used on Mac computers, it still uses the “.docx” file extension for Word, the “.ppt” file extension for PowerPoint, and all of the other same file extensions that Office uses for maximum compatibility with Windows users.
