Bluetooth is a wireless communication protocol standard that allows wireless devices to communicate with other wireless devices in the area by using shortwave radio transmissions. Bluetooth is a relatively new technology but has quickly become integrated with most modern wireless devices, such as cell phones, PDAs, cameras, and virtually any device that is equipped with a Bluetooth adapter. Bluetooth allows users to share files such as pictures, audio clips, documents, and address book contacts and provides a very high level of security.

What is an iPod Touch?

The iPod Touch is a media device that Apple created that serves as a phone, camera, computer, and media player. The iPod Touch features a touch screen that allows a user to control on-screen applications by simply touching the screen rather than using a keyboard or other controls. The iPod Touch is considered a “smart phone” because it allows users to store and access files, browse the Internet, and take advantage of a number of built-in applications, much like a computer. Additionally, the iPod Touch can be connected to a wireless network for Internet access and includes full Bluetooth functionality.

How to Use Bluetooth

Bluetooth technology is very simple to use and generally has the same interface, regardless of hardware. However, Bluetooth may seem confusing to those who have never used it before. In order to access Bluetooth functions on an iPod Touch or any other wireless device that is equipped with Bluetooth technology, the user must locate Settings and find Connectivity options. When first activating Bluetooth functions, the user may be required to type in a password. Unless changed, the default password is usually 0000 or 1234. The user should then search for nearby devices and choose which one he/she wishes to connect to. Bluetooth allows the user to connect to a maximum of seven devices at any one time, but the owner of each device must give the user permission before a connection can be made.

Advantages of Bluetooth

Those who take advantage of Bluetooth technology can share files with other devices in the area and may be able to control those devices in certain situations. This is because a computer, fax machine, printer, or any other device that is equipped with a Bluetooth adapter can communicate with other Bluetooth devices, sometimes allowing those devices to be used as a remote control or server.
