Yahoo Mail is an email software that Yahoo provides that comes with every new Yahoo account. Yahoo Mail allows users to receive email, compose new messages, and organize email in different ways, much like many other browser based email clients. Yahoo Mail also automatically detects spam and forwards it to the user’s Spam folder without ever alerting the user to the numerous junk messages accumulated.

Yahoo Email Clients

Although Yahoo Mail should never stop working properly, the user’s account may be deleted or become inaccessible for a number of reasons without warning. In order to preserve his/her emails, a user can backup his/her Yahoo Mail account by using any desktop email client that supports Yahoo accounts. Mozilla Thunderbird, Zimbra Desktop, and FoxMail all allow users to access their Yahoo accounts via their desktop and automatically download Yahoo Mail messages to a computer.

Yahoo to Gmail

In addition to desktop email clients, users can also import their Yahoo Mail messages to their Gmail account. This can be done by opening Gmail in any web browser and clicking on the Settings button. From here, the user can click on the Accounts and Import tab, click “Import mail and contacts,” and select “Import from another address.” The user can now enter his/her Yahoo Mail username and password, ensure that “Import mail” and “Import contacts” are both checked, click “Start Import,” and click “OK.”
