A Nook is an e-reader/tablet PC that Barnes & Noble produced. It can be used to read e-books from both Barnes & Noble and third party sources, browse the Internet, and even run third party applications. There are several different types of Nooks available that mimic other e-readers such as the Kindle, Sony Reader, and BeBook. While these different versions vary slightly in price, the primary question on most potential Nook users’ mind is, “How much do books cost on the Nook?”

Free Nook Books

Although most e-books that Barnes & Noble provide are sold for a profit, Barnes & Noble offers several hundred e-books that are completely free. While these free e-books are usually old or unpopular novels, Nook users can find some good stories and biographies among them. Additionally, Nook users can get free e-books from third party sources such as ePubBooks, Project Gutenberg, PDF documents, HTML pages, and plain text documents.

Classics

Besides free e-books, Barnes & Noble provides Nook users with a vast collection of classic novels and biographies that are well known and that most libraries around the world supply. These classics include titles such as Robin Hood, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Sherlock Holmes, as well as thousands of other popular stories. These classic stories often sell for several dollars, but are generally cheaper than their physical counterparts.

Popular Books

New and popular books are generally the highest selling e-books for the Nook, but are still usually cheaper than their physical counterparts and can be accessed from anywhere. Popular e-books include Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Lord of the Rings. While these stories have been available for several years, they are still considered best sellers and are very popular e-books.
